In August of 2006, the Big Sky Distance Project evolved at a gathering of Montana distance runners on the banks of the Jefferson River in Waterloo. The concept was for a USA Track & Field club that could provide competitive opportunities for open and master’s distance runners from throughout Montana, united behind the idea of competing in team-based local, regional and national competitions. Selection Criteria: BSDP teams are primarily selected using Montana Cup finish order, with at-large selections allowed under extenuating circumstances. Yearly event listings linked at right The BSDP's first event was the USATF Club Ekiden Championship hosted by the Colfax Marathon in Denver on 21 May 2006. The club's most recent event was the USATF Club XC Championship in Spokane on 13 December 2008.
